The festival begins with our networking meeting. From 11 am to 3 pm, we would like to explore together how a plural culture of remembrance can be shaped so that the experiences of those targeted by violence are brought to the forefront. We aim to connect institutions, initiatives, and actors within the field of remembrance culture and politics and to create synergies between topics, resources, and projects.
Based on the convictions of CPPD, we believe that it is possible to rethink remembrance culture – not only as a diverse form of collective memory. A plural culture of remembrance includes a concept of strengthening and supporting people who have been targets of violence – not in the abstract, but in concrete ways that respond to their needs. Together with you, we want to reflect in working groups on what such support and empowerment can look like, and what each of us can contribute.
The two topics for the group work are:
Remembrance as empowerment
How can a culture of remembrance strengthen survivors, relatives, and affected communities instead of retraumatizing them?
Structures and responsibility
What institutional structures are needed to sustainably anchor the perspectives of initiatives and actors?
Continuities of Resistance: The Power of Sound and Listening
The workshop by Talya Feldman explores the profound political dimensions of sound and listening from 4 to 5:30 pm. Through samples of city soundscapes, instrumentals, interviews, speeches, and musical recordings, this workshop will examine the ways sound and listening can be used as political tools for overcoming structures of power. More specifically, we will be looking at examples of audio and voice, from Black Lives Matter to Act Up in the United States to Microphone Mafia in NRW, sounds of resistance that are all too often excluded from historical discourse and archive, but offer powerful, alternative narratives to today’s society. Participants will be encouraged to build their own sonic archives and form strategies of sound and listening within their own practices.
Talya Feldman is a media and sound artist whose interdisciplinary work uniquely combines cultural work, education, and political engagement. More information about Talya Feldman can be found here: https://www.talyafeldman.net/
At our panel discussion “REMEMBERING IN CONFLICT”, starting at 7 pm, we will speak with survivors and relatives of the far-right terrorist attacks in Munich (2016), Halle (2019), and Hanau (2020).
Panelists: Anastassia Pletoukhina, Sibel Leyla, Said Etris Hashemi, and İsmet Tekin | Moderation: Jo Frank
The panel aims to make the complex experiences of our guests visible and to open a space for listening, reflection, and collective shaping.
All three events will take place on 12 June 2025 at TEKİEZ, “Space for Remembrance and Solidarity”, Ludwig-Wucherer-Straße 12, 06108 Halle (Saale).
Admission is free.
Participation is only possible with registration by 6 June 2025.
