Together with experts from the fields of art, culture, journalism, activism and politics, the CPPD realized a series of discussions in which the respective experts and a member of the CPPD network focused on different conflict regions and moments of remembrance. The result is six short videos that refer specifically to examples of countries and moments of remembrance, while also exploring the diverse questions surrounding the remembrance of the present.

Journalist Christian Bangel explores right-wing continuities in Germany in conversation with Creative Director and Strategist Thao Tran. Photographer and author Muhammad Salah, together with political scientist Benjamin Fischer, takes us to Sudan and highlights our responsibilities in the conflicts between the Global North and Global South. The musician, author and presenter Yuriy Gurzhy talks to the author and journalist Olesya Yaremchuk about Ukraine, about living and dying in war; the journalist Waslat Hasrat-Nazimi, together with the religious scholar, philosopher and translator Ahmad Milad Karimi, focuses on Afghanistan and the effects of decades of war on society and individuals. Tezcan Tekkal, social entrepreneur and co-founder of the human rights organization HÁWAR.help (link), talks to journalist Dinah Riese about the genocide of the Yazidis, global awareness and the activist power of individuals. The doctor and journalist Gilda Sahebi talks to Hannan about Iran, diasporic resilience, hopes and fears. In consultation with Meron Mendel and Frederek Musall, we have decided to record a conversation about Israel after October 7, 2023 via Zoom. »Gegenwart Erinnern« (remembering the present) also means being caught up, overrun and overwhelmed by the present.

The series of talks was initially conceived for the CPPD’s “Gegenwart erinnern” conference in October 2023.
