April, and is thus framed by the International Feminist Day of Struggle and the International Day of the Rom*nja.
IniRromnja & RomaniPhen
Our self-organisation RomaniPhen e.V. emerged in 2019 from IniRromnja, an initiative and women’s group of Roma* and Sintizze* who are actively campaigning against societal hostilities. We are a feminist, racism-critical, and empowering association of Romnja* and Sintizzi* working in the field of extracurricular, historical, and political education. One focus of our work is to highlight heroines of resistance in our materials: video contributions, scientific articles, interviews, and educational materials. We do work that directly affects us, while also forming coalitions with other Sinti*zze and Rom*nja self-organisations as well as People of Colour and migrants.
We take centre stage during Romnja* Power Month
Both the media and academia often feature racist portrayals of Sinti*zze and Rom*nja. We want to counteract these derogatory and homogeneous representations, especially during Romnja* Power Month, by highlighting Romnja* and Sintizzi* as artistic, scientific and socially critical actors and presenting their work to a broad audience with this special and unique series of events in Germany. The Romnja* Power Month makes visible pluralistic and cross-generational social analyses, contributions, histories, topics important to Romnja, especially women, as well as feminist perspectives.
Coming together
This month, we are looking forward to coming together and exchanging ideas both within and outside the community. It is important to us to organise events with other Romani associations both nationally and internationally and thus to create visibility for a range of topics outside of our association.
Closing event of the Romnja Power Month
On 8 April, International Rom*nja Day, everyone is cordially invited to celebrate with us! On this day, we will be offering a stage to various Romani artists. From readings to live bands, our evening event offers a diverse feminist programme.
Opre Romnja*!
